In 2021, Metro United Way focused like never before on building a more equitable community.

We invested in 19 Black-led social justice organizations and provided free capacity-building training to dozens more through the Black L.O.V.E. Philanthropic Partnership.

Through our Racial Wealth Gap Simulation, more than 3,000 people learned about historical American policies that hurt Black and brown communities and left lasting impacts.

Metro United Way amplified the voices of thought leaders focused on diversity, equity and inclusion – with more than 2,000 attending our Beyond Buzzwords speaker series.

And after a nationwide search, we hired Adria Johnson, the first Black woman to be Metro United Way’s President and CEO.

Our focus on equity makes everyone stronger. And it impacted ALL our work in 2021.

We helped 5,299 families avoid foreclosure or eviction and helped 13,000 more with emergency shelter in our seven-county region.

74,578 people got immediate help through our call center.

We fought to increase funding to child care providers so working families could still access child care.

Bikes or Bust collected 2,282 bicycles and helmets for children and teens ahead of the holidays.

We built hundreds of beds for children in need in southern Indiana.

And we provided 72,500 meals through Farmers Feeding Families in Shelby County.
