Anthony's Story

Anthony’s story is his success — one that saw him surround himself in a collaborative community effort designed to improve opportunities and experiences for men and boys of color. His story of long-lasting, life change is a highlight of Metro United Way’s Black Male Achievement (BMA) work.

Our community has a segment of young people who consistently live shorter, poorer-quality lives with fewer opportunities than many of their counterparts across racial and ethnic groups. Metro United Way launched the BMA initiative five years ago and partnered with local and national organizations to celebrate men of color and showcase people like Anthony. 2Not1 – where Anthony was able to find food, a job and turn his life around – is one of those partners.

This collective group of grassroots nonprofits, national foundations, membership networks and other leading organizations are committed to improving life outcomes of black men and boys by closing the gap in reading proficiency, school discipline, unemployment and participation in the criminal justice system. As a result of this powerful work, Louisville has become known as the “epicenter” of the BMA movement nationally, and has been awarded and recognized as such by United Way Worldwide and the Campaign for Black Male Achievement.
